20926Cc Tumbler Red, green, gold, indigo 2250.00
76" x 86" 1880s, Pennsylvania; Sadosky family of near Harrisburg. Five inch Tumbler units in chrome orange, Turkey red, green calico, and white with navy (or black) stars are set in rows alternating right side up, up side down. The next row is set just the reverse, creating large lozenges of color and chains running vertically and diagonally. Around this strong design field the quiltmaker has created a diagonally striped border of 3" strips in Turkey red, very dark indigo, and a second white with navy or black stars. The applied binding is dark double pink plaid, over a brown and white gingham back. Pieced and joined by hand and machine; hand quilted in sets of double line outlines filling each lozenge, and in outline and and a double line diagonal through the center of each border strip. Unused and unwashed; two tiny brown spots on the front.
