Nine Patch on Point
31708Cc Nine Patch on point Greens, gold, brown multi 525.00
74” x 81” ca. 1900; Pennsylvania; maker unknown. Forty-two 6” Nine Patch units, set on point and alternated with squares of a single light red and blue striped shirting form the design field. The blocks are pieced light and dark, some with the corners and centers dark and others the reverse. The design field is bordered on three sides by a brown and red floral print strip 2.5” wide, and the whole field is bordered by a 7.5” band of the shirting stripe, which is narrowly turned to the back to form binding. The back is the same brown and red floral as the inner framing. Entirely hand pieced, hand joined, and hand quilted in a chevron X through the shirting squares and in a single X through the design blocks. The shirting borders are quilted in wide braid. This quilt has never been used or washed; fold lines are evident, and there are a few light stains on the front, but the fabric is crisp and sturdy.
