Memorial Sampler, 1846

91720Cc  English  1846 memorial Sampler made by Ellen Crapper, Bury, Lancashire, England, memorializing her infant sister, who died December 23rd, 1846.  When recently found, the sampler fabric was thumb-tacked to a piece of waste plywood.  Currently it is in a temporary acid-free frame, held in place by painter's tape which is easily removed.  Accompanying the sampler is a genealogy of Ellen Crapper and her sister Margaret Ann.  Wool embroidery on canvas, some thread loss and breakage of the canvas threads.  the verse says:  "An angel mark'd it were [sic] it grew With bright admiring eyes Pluck'd it in haste and with it flew Exulting to the skies."
