61616Cc  McKim “Colonial History”       Red, white, blue                       525.00
60” x 91”  1927 – 1935, Grant Co., Indiana; made by Emma Harris Winger (1877-1964) for her children.  This is Ruby McKim’s “Colonial History” series of redwork, outline-embroidered designs showing events in American history.  Occasionally these designs have identification embroidered at the bottom, but not in this case.      The 10 ½” blocks are set 4 x 6 and sashed with plain medium blue 4” strips, and the design field is framed by a triple border of 1” bright solid red, 1” white, and 1” medium blue.  Red matching binding finishes the edge, over a white back.  Nicely hand embroidered in red, machine joined, and hand quilted in segmented diamonds and elongated triangles framing each embroidered figure, with 2” diamond lattice on the diagonal filling the sashing and borders.  Excellent condition.
