91616Cc Lombardy Lily Rose, pink, green 475.00
70” x 82” 1938-50, Marion Co., IN; maker unknown. Brackman 8.47, from Nancy Cabot designs, Chicago Tribune,
1938. The twelve 11.5” blocks feature four lilies in light pink with rose center, stemming from a yellow circular center and set on cream. In the 4 ovals created by the curved petals of the lilies are dark green ovals. The blocks are set straight and framed by 6” strips of cream sashing, making the colored figures “float.” An 12” frame of cream, with rose and pink figures like watermelon halves with green leaves surrounds the design area, with pink applied binding over a cream back. Entirely hand appliqued, hand joined, and hand quilted in a 1” square grid on grain over the entire cream area, with additional floral figures quilted in, and 4 feathered hearts framing each of the blocks and extending over the joining seams. There may be names or initials within the hearts, but the figures there are hard to isolate. Applique pieces are outlined. Binding shows wear, but otherwise the quilt is sturdy and in excellent condition.
