Jewel Box/Multiple Irish Chain
91706Cc Jewel Box/Multiple Irish Chain Pastel multi, nile green 525.00
73” X 83” 1930s, Burlington, Carroll Co., IN; maker unknown. This design is composed of 3,953 squares, each cut 1.5” by hand, in cream, nile green solid, and a huge variety of pastel prints. The squares are joined by hand over the entire design field, which creates wide diagonal bands of color edged by nile green, around white fields. The design finishes with triangular groups of squares in each corner, a design difficulty often ignored by other quilters. The applied binding is nile green, over a white back. Hand quilting in an X in each square creates a 1.25” square lattice on the diagonal over the entire quilt. Minor shading of beige discoloration in some of the white squares, or a second creamy white fabric has the appearance of discoloration. Otherwise in excellent condition.
