31403Cc “Flying Doves” Medium blue, white 450.00
70” x 78” 1920-40, Avon, Hendricks Co., IN: maker unknown. This is a deceptively complex pattern, not found in Brackman but resembling doves in flight. The pattern pieces are curved, making accurate piecing more difficult. Sixteen 14” blocks feature four “bird” figures in medium blue, centered on a small blue square. The blocks are set 4 x 4, with 4” white sashing dividing them. On two ends there is a 5” white border split by a 1/2” blue strip; the sides have only a 2” white border, and the binding is medium blue, over a white back. Entirely hand pieced, joined, and hand quilted. The “birds” are outlined and accent-quilted, and the remainder of the surface is quilted in 1” square lattice on the diagonal. Excellent condition; only lightly used.
