82” x 96” 1930-1940s. place and maker unknown. Thirty 14” Plate blocks with 20 wedges or petals per block in bright prints and solids are hand pieced and then appliqued with black blanket stitching to 14.5”white background squares, The squares are machine-joined and framed by a 5” white border with individual petals arranged along the sides, with three forming a fan figure in the corners. The petals are appliqued in black running stitch along the sides and blanket stitching along the top curve. Hand quilted in outline around each of the petals, with 1” square lattice in the Plate centers and a design of interlocked ovals in the spaces between the Plates. Instead of binding, the white back and front are knife-edged and stitched with black blanket stitching. Excellent condition with the exception of a few weak or broken places in the binding stitches. Will fit a QUEEN.
