36” x 50” 1933 Bucilla kit #2947, shown in 1933 Bucilla catalog. Center white oval features a pair of children described as brother and sister, she in a bonnet, pink scoop-shouldered dress and pantaloons, he in a blue collared print shirt and high-waisted blue bellbottoms (another version shows him in a hat and long coat). Both figures have embroidered accents. They share the handle of an embroidered basket with embroidered flowers, and are framed below by appliqued flowers with embroidered details. The oval is appliqued in the center of a soft yellow ground that has a white floral motif appliqued and embroidered in each corner. The back is a brighter yellow, and the scalloped border is bound in white bias tape. Beautifully hand appliqued and embroidered, hand quilted according to the kit design, the figures outlined and backed with 1” grid within the oval. The oval is framed by a large feathered wreath, and an undulating feather vine circles each corner motif and winds along each side of the quilt. The filler between the feathers is 1” diagonal lines, and the outer edges are quilted in 2” lines vertical to the quilt borders. Excellent condition.
