31404Cc Bowtie Double pink, white 475.00
77” x 80” 1929; made by Martha “Mattie” Brown; quilt acquired in Plainfield, Hendricks Co., Indiana. A note sewed to one corner says “This quilt was made by your Grandmother Brown in her 66th year of age 1929. To Lee Wendell Brown from your Grandmother Brown.” The note suggests that Lee and his siblings may all have been given quilts by their grandmother when they were too small to appreciate them, made by her in anticipation of her death before the children were grown (family data will accompany quilt.) One hundred and ten 7” Bowtie blocks in a single double pink print are set in straight rows and framed by a 3” white border and double pink binding, over a white back. Hand pieced, machine joined, hand quilted in an over-all 2” square grid on the diagonal. Unused and unwashed, one brown stain on back; excellent condition.
